A nation that destroys its soils destroys itself. Forests are the lungs of our land, purifying the air and giving fresh strength to our people
Have you ever thought that one of the best ways to preserve the rainforest is to avoid palm oil. Palm oil is a usual component of most processed foods, household products, beauty products and even fuel – it has a tremendous advantage because of its versatility. However, palm oil is a potent contributor to rainforest deforestation.
More than 8o% of palm oil derives from Malaysia and Indonesia. In the places where the palm oil tree came from, people burned down the forest so they could plant more palm oil ones. Fires set to clear forests and create land for more palm plantations which has devastating effects on carbon emissions and wildlife habitat. In order to avoid pal oil, try to consume products that are made locally.
If you want to save rainforests – just buy less in general. Before purchasing new jeans, think twice. Do you really need it? If you do need a pair, go to a second hand shop. If you are not keen on second hand things, try to improve your old ones. There are so many ways to make your cloves to last longer. You just need a desire to do so. When you choose a new product to buy, ensure that it is made from recycled materials.
Even thought the rainforest is extremely efficient at storing carbon, it is at the same time at great risk from climate change. So you can also save the rainforest by simply reducing your overall footprint such as instead of driving – taking public transport, adjusting your home thermostat and limiting air travel.
